Birmingham gets boost in European Indoor Championship

Birmingham student Mari Smith saw the reigning 800m champion. Swiss Selina Buchel, get knocked out as she went on to qualify for the final for the first time.

Britain’s Shelayna Oskar-Clarke went on to win the gold medal with Smith missing out on the bronze medal by 0.2 second.

Earlier on in the week local girl Laura Muir won gold in the 3000m race that was held near her hometown in Glasgow.

British favorite Adele Tracey failed to qualify for the final after tactics let her down.

The girls got their awards at the Emirates Stadium where the European Indoor Championship was held.
